Volunteer Crew Descriptions
If you are interested in a particular crew make sure to list any related work and life experiences when you apply online.
Breakdown Crew: local folks please apply! Every year we seek to bring on local and dependable GrassRoots fans who want to help with festival wrap up.
Duties include: picking up trash, sorting recycling, taking down tents, taking up dance floors.
Concessions: retail experience and references required. Please send along resume and references when you apply online (application will be up early May). Be a part of the volunteer team at the GrassRoots Merchandise tent located at the center of the festival.
Duties include: Merchandising, sales, customer service, set up and breakdown of the merchandise tent.
CRT (Compost, Recycling, Trash): help reduce festival waste by volunteering on the crew that helps manage disposables.
Duties include: assisting festival goers with waste separation, staffing CRT stations located throughout the festival, monitor unstaffed stations on the festival grounds.
Gate Crew: helping either the front or back gate function. Friendly and welcoming folks please apply! If you are familiar with the festival this is also a good crew to be on—you’ll be getting lots of questions from festival goers.
Duties include: checking wristbands, keeping lines straightened out, keeping lines moving, opening and closing traffic gate, answering questions and giving directions.
Hospitality Kitchen Crew: Are you Back of House? Front of House? Do you have your own favorite knives at home or at work? Full service on premise catering in a busy commercial kitchen right on site. Think you got what it takes? Please provide a list of past related experiences when you apply online.
Grassroots Coffee and Bagel Stand: Do you live to give great customer service? Can you toast and schmear a bagel at top speed? Master coffee brewer? Then this is the spot for you! Please provide a list of past related experiences when you apply online.
Kids Areas: there are two volunteer areas: one is oriented towards children 7 and below, the other one has activities oriented towards children 8 and above. If you like to work with young folks this is a good crew for you.
Duties include: helping to run youth-oriented activities, playing with kids, clean up and set up of kids areas.
Offsite Camping: this crew volunteers at offsite to maintain an orderly and safe camping environment for all offsite campers. Ability to walk for your entire shift is a requirement.
Duties include: helping and reminding campers to maintain lanes and distances that meet fire code, picking up trash, answering questions and giving directions.
Offsite Parking: as one of the front faces of the festival this is a vital crew that helps maintain organization out at offsite. The ability to stand for your entire shift is a requirement. Friendly folks please apply.
Duties include: directing traffic, answering questions, giving directions, and smiling!
Onsite Camping Crew: You must be available the Thursday of the festival by 10am. References may be necessary.
Duties include: this crew helps maintain fire lanes and keeps tent, vehicle, and RV spacing up to fire code on Thursday as onsite campers find their camp sites. The crew also monitors and maintains spacing needs throughout the weekend.
Security: experience and references necessary. Please include a related resume and references when you apply online in early May. This volunteer crew works in tandem with paid security. Due to the nature of this crew we feel that we must repeat the following volunteer requirement: all security volunteer personnel may not drink alcohol or be under the influence of drugs while on their shifts.
Duties include: checking wristbands, spotting problem patrons and reporting to appropriate management, helping patrons with questions. Personality requirement: the ability to say “no”.
Set up: very limited space available. This crew volunteers the week before the festival getting the fairgrounds ready for the big event.
Trash & Recycling: help the festival maintain cleanliness. Due to the nature of this crew only 9 hours of volunteering are required for a 4-day pass.
Duties include: working on a team to collect disposables from stations throughout the festival (either on foot or by truck), sorting trash at a centralized location.
