Art Barn

Volunteering in the Art Barn is good for people who do not want to do a lot of manual labor during the festival and who want to be in an eccentric, colorful atmosphere! No experience needed. 

Duties include: keep art and environment safe, keep space clean, connect with festival goers about art

breakdown crew

Works to disassemble the festival site and clean up. Good for people who can handle physical labor; be on their feet the whole time. Responsible. Local. Carpentry experience is a plus. Motivated problem-solvers. Local folks please apply!  Every year we seek to bring on local and dependable GrassRoots fans who want to help with festival wrap up.  
Duties include: picking up trash, sorting recycling, taking down tents, taking up dance floors, and heavy lifting.


Retail experience and references required. Preferably someone who is good with people, likes chatting, is helpful and patient. Sales experience is a plus. Please send along resume and references when you apply online (application will be up early May).  Be a part of the volunteer team at the GrassRoots Merchandise tent located at the center of the festival.
Duties include: merchandising, sales, customer service, set up and breakdown of the merchandise tent. There are also elements of customer service involved.

gate crew

Friendly and welcoming folks please apply!  If you are familiar with the festival this is also a good crew to be on—you’ll be getting lots of questions from festival-goers.  Need to understand flow of traffic. Must be okay to wear a bright orange vest. Will be assigned to either the front or back gate.
Duties include: checking wristbands, keeping lines straightened out, keeping lines moving, opening and closing traffic gate, answering questions and giving directions.

hospitality kitchen crew

Are you Back of House? Front of House? Do you have your own favorite knives at home or at work? Full service on premise catering in a busy commercial kitchen right on site. You will be working with all sorts food (meat, dairy, vegetables). Come clean, sober, well hydrated, in closed toed shoes! Think you got what it takes?  Please provide a list of past related experiences when you apply online.
Duties include: been in the industry, and wear hair constraints.

grassroots coffee & bagel stand

Do you live to give great customer service? Can you toast and schmear a bagel at top speed? Master coffee brewer? Then this is the spot for you! Please provide a list of past related experiences when you apply online. 

kids areas

There are two volunteer areas: one is oriented towards children 7 and below, the other one has activities oriented towards children 8 and above.  If you like to work with young folks this is a good crew for you. 
Duties include: helping to run youth-oriented activities, playing with kids, clean up and set up of kids areas and helping to maintain a safe environment.

Across the way camping

This crew volunteers at Across the Way to maintain an orderly and safe camping environment for all offsite campers.  Ability to walk for your entire shift is a requirement.

Duties include: helping and reminding campers to maintain lanes and distances that meet fire code, picking up trash, answering questions and giving directions, and insuring the general safety of campers. Wear sneakers or boots!

Across the way PARKING

As one of the front faces of the festival this is a vital crew that helps maintain organization at Across the Way. Need to have the ability to stand for your entire shift. If you are willing to shout at a stranger in a polite fashion in order to direct them into the correct parking spot, then this is the crew for you! Friendly folks please apply.
Duties include: parking cars, trash pickup as needed, helping to maintain a safe environment, directing traffic, answering questions, giving directions, and smiling! Wear sneakers or boots, and a rain jacket!


You must be available the Thursday of the festival by 10am. References may be necessary. 
Duties include: this crew helps maintain fire lanes and keeps tent, vehicle, and RV spacing up to fire code on Thursday as onsite campers find their camp sites.  The crew also monitors and maintains spacing needs throughout the weekend.


This volunteer crew works in tandem with paid security. Due to the nature of this crew we feel that we must repeat the following volunteer requirement: all security volunteer personnel may not drink alcohol or be under the influence of drugs while on their shifts. Experience and references necessary. Please include a related resume and references when you apply online in early May.
Duties include: checking wristbands, spotting problem patrons and reporting to appropriate management, helping patrons with questions.  Personality requirement: the ability to say “no”.


Festival Site build includes but is not limited to, tent setup, carpentry, stage builds, fence placement, sign painting, moving heavy materials, stake pounding and site cleanup. Very limited space available.  This crew volunteers the week before the festival getting the fairgrounds ready for the big event.
Duties include: carpentry skills, ability to lift 50 lbs. (very helpful but not a must) flexible attitude, bring sneakers or close-toed shoes, sunscreen, water bottles, cheerful attitude!

stage hand

Looking for volunteer stagehands to assist loading in and out the bands from the stages during the festival. Experience stage-handing and knowledge of basic sound equipment (amps, monitors, cables, etc..) and instruments is helpful. Due to the nature of this crew we feel that we must repeat the following volunteer requirement: all stagehand volunteer personnel may not drink alcohol or be under the influence of drugs while on their shifts. You do NOT need to be a professional sound engineer or stage tech. A positive attitude, ability to take direction from professional stage crew and respect for musicians, musical instruments and equipment is a must. Ability to be on your feet and willingness to work slightly longer shifts is also required.
Duties include: moving heavy sound equipment and carrying instruments, assisting security in maintaining safe environment on stage and back stage, additional duties will include supervising performer parking backstage. 

trash & recycling

Help the festival maintain cleanliness.  Due to the nature of this crew only 9 hours of volunteering are required for a 4-day pass if you choose the early morning or late night shifts.The work could include moving trash or recycling or returnables on the truck to the main dumpster containers, emptying containers & re-bagging them, handing out trash and recycle/return bags to campers and encouraging them to share with their neighbors, cleaning the grounds, and possibly going off-site as a group to do road cleanup.  The early morning cleanup involves picking up the grounds, especially at all the stage areas, using carts and teamwork. There’s also some PR to do, as people are appreciative of how clean we keep the festival, wear your job with pride!
Duties include: working on a team to collect disposables from stations throughout the festival (either on foot or by truck), sorting trash at a centralized location. Wear sturdy, closed-toed shoes - it is a very physical job! Consider bringing gloves, sunscreen, a hat, water bottle, and rain jacket.
